Speaking of Napoleon, the clematis Josephine is, of course, named for Napoleon's first wife, Josephine. It is always the best clematis in my garden, producing many blooms at once that look exactly like this. Like the Empress Josephine herself, this clematis is strong and hardy and self-confident. In my garden Josephine shares a trellis with the great French climbing rose Zephirine Drouhin.

Thanks to a suggestion by my blogging buddy Aunt Ornery, I was looking for pictures of George Bush as Napoleon, and happened on this image of the villa on the tiny island of Elba to which Napoleon was exiled in 1814. I've been thinking that people of my political persuasion were likely to end up at Guantanamo, but now I'm thinking Elba ....
