This painting, entitled The Stars We Never See, was done by my daughter Alyssa, whom I visited this weekend at her brand new apartment in the Twin Cities, where this painting is displayed. True art is always open to interpretation, and my daughter is the last person who would impose her interpretation on me or on anyone else. But to me, this painting says many things. It's about people who never take the time to look at the stars, or who never have the time, or who cannot look at the stars because, like my daughter, they live in an urban environment where the light from the stars is overwhelmed by light pollution. Or, it could also refer to those who do look up and yet do not see ... either literally or metaphorically. No doubt you will place your own interpretation on this painting, as is only right. Its beauty, however, is not open to question.
